It is this professional’s experience that the root of many challenges in a relationship tend to be communication, or lack thereof. We “assume” all the time that someone knows what we mean. Perhaps we say things such as “He/She SHOULD know!” This is a destructive path leading nowhere. No one is a mind reader, regardless of what a person thinks or feels their partner SHOULD know. (Vaal Counseling) provides a safe and respectful environment that can help clients learn new communication skills to move towards resolution.

Not all couples seek guidance due to a crisis. Engaged couples may want to ensure they create healthier communication skills and are proactive about avoiding these pitfalls. So often we seek help once it feels “too late”. However, “Too late” is a decision, and if open-minded and willing, can be changed. Clients can learn to improve their communication skills in a controlled environment that nurtures personal growth and resolution in conflict. It is important to learn to how verbalize what is meant (in your mind) versus how it’s said, in addition to how it’s heard on the receiving end. Client’s will also work to change their view of each other as the problem and shift to a team approach, working together to resolve the challenge.
